Americanism
By virtue of being veterans who have served their country in its time of greatest need, the fun-loving, hard-working Voyageurs Militaire maintain a strong commitment to the American way of life. Americanism projects, respect for the flag, Constitution, Law and Order and the proven willingness to defend these principles is evident in the day-to-day activities of members of our society.

AMERICANISM NEWSLETTER
May 2016
From the desk of Dixie Lee Hotaling

LIFE IS A PLAY. IT IS NOT ITS
LENGTH, BUT IT’S PERFORMANCE THAT COUNTS. Seneca
Spring has finally sprung herein the
Northwest. Weed and Feed covers the lawns. A variety of flower bulbs
have buds. The sun reminds us of the seasonal change. Americanism
projects fall into place.
The school year is winding down.
Spring lends an opportunity to share flags, coloring books and stories
with the younger generation. Whatever your branch of service –
everyone has a story to share. We veterans are the historians of the
past. We offer first-hand experiences to promote a better
understanding of American’s military history. Our Korean War and
Vietnam Veterans speak at the middle schools and high schools.
Students are eager to learn. Some will share family life from their
perspective. They have had to live and support combat veterans
returning home. We are the mentors and support system for them. What
schools? What groups? Who will you speak to? Young combat veterans are
seeking help as they try to fit back into the family and communities.
Will you be that listening ear, the person, who offers safety and
encouragement to them?
On a personal note: May 7th will
find me attending one of my daughter’s wedding. This is the first
time most of my girls and I will together. It is generational.
Daughter, grand daughter and great grand- daughters will be together.
Needless to say – my mind and attention will be on family, however,
each child will leave with a flag and Pledge of Allegiance coloring
book.
COMMUNITY HOURS – The time crunch
is coming. Remind voyageurs of the importance of turning in the
community hours. You have worked hard. Share you numbers.
AMERICANISM AWARDS – Have you
identified the persons you want to honor? Time is running out.
Remember, first the locale voyageurs select and vote, then your Grande
votes. The final step is to submit them to National. These are the
highest honors the 40 & 8 offers. Let’s honor our unsung heroes.
MEMBERSHIP – Now is a good time to
invite new people in. As our Women Veterans Connect Organization
grows, so does the 40 & 8. Every woman is introduced to our
Voiture. We share common values and service. Again, how many
‘caps’ pass you by – sporting veteran colors, who know nothing
about the 40 & 8? Encourage the voyageurs to educate these people.
REMEMBER: One child, one Family, one
Community, one State = ONE NATION UNDER GOD.
Have a great May. Dixie Hotaling =
